Confederate Soldier. Elam was a carpenter before he enlisted in Co A, 7th North Carolina Infantry on July 20, 1861; he served throughout the entire War. Later he farmed in Statesville, North Carolina, before he came to Canon City in 1886 where was known as one of Canon City's most honest and upright citizens. Census shows his wife's name as Mary.
